4 Key Benefits of Vegan Nail Polish

4 Key Benefits of Vegan Nail Polish

Have you ever considered vegan nail polish before?

There are plenty of reasons to seek out vegan nail polish next time you're in the mood for a new manicure or pedicure. Not convinced? Don't worry; we're here to talk about it.

Keep reading to learn all of the reasons that you should start painting your nails with vegan nail polish.

1. No Animal Testing

When you choose vegan cosmetic products, like vegan nail polish, you know that you're not getting a product that was tested on animals. You get all of the fun nail polish colours without any of the animal cruelty.

Animal testing is cruel and unnecessary when it comes to cosmetic products. While this testing can be helpful for medical procedures or science, there's no reason that cosmetics need to be used to harm animals.

2. No Bugs on Your Nails

Does the idea of bugs on your nails appeal to you? Aside from adding some butterfly or ladybug designs on your nails, you want to be bug-free, right?

When you don't buy vegan nail polish, this might not be an option. But why would there be bugs in your nail polish?

The answer is carmine. Carmine is a natural dye created from the cochineal bug. The bugs are crushed, dried, and mixed with alcohol. Carmine is used for red cosmetics.

That's right, your red nail polish might include bugs. When you opt for vegan nail polish, there are no bugs in sight.

3. The Ethical Choice

Overall, veganism is almost always the more ethical choice. This is especially true when it comes to cosmetic products.

While it's understandable that some people still consume animal products for their diets, there's no reason that animals need to be involved in cosmetics. Nail polish is aesthetic, and aesthetics aren't worth the death or injury of an animal.

4. You Know They're Vegan-Safe

Many vegans and vegetarians might be reading this article thinking "well of course nail polish is vegan," but it isn't quite so simple. While you already read ingredient labels on foods and you avoid materials like leather, you may not even think about what's in your polish.

We already mentioned carmine, but many people are already aware of it. That's not the only thing that can come from animals, though.

Iridescent colours, like those that look like pearls, are often created from fish scales. Nail products that contain keratin often come from animals like horses, rabbits, and cows unless otherwise specified.

Keratin is good for your nails, but bad for the animals.

You don't have to read labels when you choose vegan nail polish. You know that the polish is safe for you.

Vegan Nail Polish Is the Right Choice

Next time you want to get fancy, choose vegan nail polish. There are so many fun colours to choose from, and none of them come from bugs, fish, or other animals.

You don't have to dig into the labels to see if the nail polish is safe for you to use as a vegan, and you know that there was no animal testing involved. What's not to love?

And SNS is still the leader, being voted "Best Dip Powder System" consecutively for three years by NAILPRO Magazine's 60,000+ professional readers.

SNS products are vegan, cruelty-free, and free from the toxic chemicals known to cause damage not only to your nails but also to your overall health.

In addition to offering a system that helps reduce the chemical load and resulting damage to the nails, the SNS Dipping Powder bases and sealers are enriched with no less than 5 nutrients and antioxidants:

  • Vitamin A is an antioxidant that helps the nail bed repel bacteria and viruses, while also protecting nails against UV damage.
  • Vitamin E is a nutrient and protector for the nail bed: it helps neutralise free radicals which damage the cells, and strengthens the immune system
  • Vitamin B5 has powerful abilities to regenerate the nail bed, making the tissue more solid and elastic. It also provides a protective barrier against harm.
  • Vitamin D3 boosts elasticity of the tissues and stimulates collagen production while helping to replenish the cells and maintain their natural moisture levels.
  • Calcium is an essential component for cell regeneration and tissue strength. It also has a protective function stimulating the production of natural antioxidants to preserve cell health.

The SNS dipping powder system actively improves the health of the nail!

A key difference between SNS dipping powders and other brands, is the addition of benzoyl peroxide.

When it comes to the act of dipping, you might have worries about the chances of getting infection. SNS incorporates a common ingredient ‘benzoyl peroxide’ in all dip powders. Benzoyl peroxide inhibits the growth of any bacteria thereby eliminating any possibility of cross-contamination and infection. SNS is the safest option for dip powder nails.

SNS Dip Powder Application

The concept of dipping powders is simple. Dip powder nails are created by layering a liquid adhesive on the nail and then quickly dipping the nail into colour dipping powder.

These layers are then bonded together with an activator before being sealed for protection and shine with a top coat specifically designed for dip powder applications.

Check out our easy-to-follow, in-depth tutorial on how to apply SNS nails for beginners.

SNS Dip Powder Removal

Removing SNS dip powder nails is easy, especially compared to other manicures. There's less chemicals involved with the dip powder system. Acetone is able to penetrate the layers and soften the dip powder. And there's no heavy drilling required!

How to Remove SNS Nails at Home

How to Remove SNS Nails at Home

One of the best things about SNS nails is how long they last. When applied properly, SNS nails can last anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks depending on how fast your nails grow.

If you’re due to remove your SNS nails or ready for a new set -- here’s the best way to remove dip powder nails at home without damaging your natural nails. The great thing about this method of removing dip powder is that it requires mostly items you’ll already have around your house!

What You'll Need

Step by Step Guide

  1. Start with a bowl of hot water. Place the second glass bowl in the bowl of hot water without having the water overflow.
  2. Place some cotton wool in the bowl. You could fold a paper towel instead, but this can get a bit messy.
  3. Pour in enough acetone to soak the cotton wool or paper towel and your nails on both hands.
  4. Buff off the top coat of your nails so that the acetone is able penetrate through the dip powder.
  5. Put your hands into the bowl and let them soak against the cotton wool or paper towel for 1 minute. The hot water keeps the acetone warm, helping it break down SNS dip powder faster.
  6. After that, rub your nails against the cotton wool or paper towel. Keep this up for 2-5 minutes. You should see the colour coming off!
  7. Take your nails out of the bowl to check their progress. Use the cotton wool or paper towel to glide dip powder off the nails. If SNS dip powders were used with SNS dip liquids, your SNS nails should come off with ease!
  8. Continue to soak and rub your nails in the acetone if dip powder remains. Any tiny bits can be buffed off easily.

This method is the best way to remove SNS dip powders and is used in salons too! You can remove SNS Gel with this method too and it’ll work.

After removing your SNS manicure, your nails should feel nice and healthy.

How to Do SNS Dip Powder Nails for Beginners

How to Do SNS Dip Powder Nails for Beginners

Doing your own nails is a skill many of us had to learn in 2021.

Once upon a time, SNS dip powder nails were a service you could only get at a salon. Today, our professional products are available to everyone. So now you can get salon-quality nails at home too!

Applying SNS Diping Powders at Home

You’ll need a few simple tools and products to begin doing your own SNS dip powder nails. If you regularly do your own manicures at home then you might already have some of these.

What You'll Need

SNS Dip Powder Application Steps

Before you apply your SNS dipping powders, make sure you have properly prepped your nails. Preparation is the key to any long-lasting manicure, so don’t overlook it.

Now let’s get dipping!

Step 1

Apply SNS Gel Base to ¾ of the nail plate and dip the nail into SNS Natural Set Dip Powder. Tap the finger and use your small nail brush to lightly dust the excess powder off and around the nail.

Repeat this step but this time apply it to the entire nail, avoiding the cuticle line. Do this for all 10 nails.

Step 2

Apply SNS Gelous Base polish to the nail, again avoiding the cuticle line. Then, dip the nail into your chosen SNS Gelous Color Dip Powder. Tap and then brush excess powder off the nail.

Repeat this step to build thickness or colour.

Step 3

Apply another layer of SNS Gelous Base to the nail, then dip the nail into SNS Natural Set Sheer Powder. Tap and brush excess powder off the nail.

Step 4

Brush SNS Sealer Dry onto each nail. This sets and hardens dip powder so try not to get it anywhere you don’t want dip powder to adhere to!

Step 5

Buff each nail using the buffer block until you have a nice, even surface. Use a nail file to reshape the nails, if necessary.

Step 6

Apply SNS Sealer Dry once more and allow to dry completely. Use a lint-free alcohol wipe to remove any excess.

Step 7

Apply a thin layer of SNS Gel Top coat on the nail and wait for it to dry for 1-2 minutes. Apply a second coat of SNS Gel Top coat to each nail. Allow your nails to dry for 2-5 minutes.

Step 8

Lastly, apply SNS Vitamin Oil to your cuticle area and massage in for that fresh set, salon-quality look and feel.

And ta-da! Fresh, salon-quality DIY SNS dip powder nails all in the comfort of your own home.

If at first you don’t succeed… Dip, and dip again! For more tips on perfecting your dip powder nails, check out these 10 simple tips that make a big difference.

Dip Powder vs Gel Nails: Which is Better?

Dip Powder vs Gel Nails: Which is Better?

The most popular manicure options today include dip powder nails & gel nails. They both last for weeks at a time, much longer than a traditional nail polish manicure. But when it comes to dip powder vs gel nails; which one is better?

We'll look at what dip powder and gel nails are, their application and removal process, and the benefits of both to help you decide which is better - for you.

What are dip powder nails?

Dip powder nails are like a cross between acrylics and gel nails. They look the most like acrylic nails and have the lightweight feel of gel nails. SNS nails are very durable and generally last for 3 more weeks. Even longer if you wanted them to.

SNS created the world’s first dip powder for nails to improve the condition of nails with every application. The created layers of dip powder provide your natural nails with strength and protection, which allows them to grow.

The entire dip powder system - comprising of dip liquids and dip powders - are enriched with vitamins A, E, B3, D5, and calcium to promote nail health, growth, and repair.

Applying SNS dip powder

‍Applying dip powder is an entirely different process to what you're used to. It involves painting on a clear base coat and dipping your nails into a jar of powder. Hence the name. The layers are then bonded together with an activator, sealing it all together. At this point, you can buff and file the layers to your liking before going in with the top coats.

Regarding nail prep: you would prep your nails as you would with any manicure. Cut, shape, buff, and push the cuticles back. Moisture is not a friend of dip powder, so it's important to make sure your nails are clean and dry.

Overall, it takes around 30 minutes to an hour to complete a dip powder manicure. It really depends on the amount of layers you create and your skill level. With that being said, it's definitely something anyone can learn how to do!

Removing SNS dip powder

Taking off your nail enhancements is so easy when you have dip powder nails. That's thanks to the SNS formula, which contains less chemicals compared to other manicures. This is also what makes SNS different from other brands of dip powder.

Remove dip powder nails by buffing the shiny top coat surface off. Then soak your nails in a bowl of warm acetone and let it do it's thang. The dipping powder should soften and allow you to wipe it off. Then repeat soaking and wiping until it's all off. There's no heavy drilling required.

Benefits of SNS dip powder

SNS has been voted "The Best Dipping Powder System" for 3 consecutive years (2018, 2019, 2020) by over 60,000 professional readers of NAILPRO Magazine. As well, it's rated #1 for strong & healthy nails by consumers worldwide.

SNS Badges for "Rated #1 for Healthy, Stronger Nails by Consumers Worldwide", and 2018, 2019, 2020 NailPro Magazine Reader's Choice for the best dip powder system.

Users - both client and nail professionals - love SNS dipping powders for many reasons.

  • Formulated with nutrients; low in chemicals
  • Helps your nails grow longer and stronger
  • No UV light needed
  • Durable; lasts over 3 weeks
  • Vegan & Cruelty-free formula
  • Easy to apply and achieve professional results
  • Easy to remove without damaging natural nails

  • Great way to curb nail biting habits
  • Dip powders are odourless

SNS dip powder system products

So we've mentioned before that the dip powder system involves both dip liquids and dip powders. Here's an overview of what's available:

Dip liquids

Otherwise known as SNS Bases & Sealers. They are essential to creating dip powder nails and work hand-in-hand with dipping powders to create strength and add protection to natural nails. Our dip liquids are available in the Classics Nutri-Plus range as well as the SenShine range for sensitive skin and eyes.

SNS Bases & Sealers (Classics Nutri-Plus)

Dip powders

SNS invented dip powders. So naturally, we have the widest selection of colours available.

There are several dip colour ranges: Pink & White System, Gelous Color, Fabulous Dip, Perfect Flo, and Dipstar.

Learn more about the colour systems here.

What are gel nails?

Gel manicures are applied like regular polish but require the use of a UV or LED light to cure. The result of gel nails have the closest look to nail polish and will give you perfectly glossed wear without chipping or peeling moments after applying.

Gel nails last for 2 weeks, or more with care. SNS gel polishes are created with less chemicals and won't leave your nail beds weak like some gels are known to do.

Applying gel polish

The gel nails application process is very similar to regular nail polish. But instead of waiting forever for it to air-dry, you need a UV lamp to cure the polish.

Nail preparation for gel nails is standard. Cut, shape, push cuticles back, and buff your nails. Gel nails adhere better to a rough surface so don't buff them too much.

Start by painting on a base coat followed by 2-3 coats of your chosen gel polish colour. Finish with a shiny or matte top coat to protect your colour. For each coat of gel you paint on, you'll need to cure it under UV light for 30-120 seconds depending on the gel polish itself.

Gel nails typically take up to an hour to do. Much of that time depends on how long the gel polish needs to cure under UV light.

Removing gel polish

Like dip powder nails, the removal process for gel nails is easy and definitely something you can do at home.

All you need to do is soak some acetone in cotton balls and wrap over your gel nails for 10-15 minutes and it should come right off. Any remaining gel polish can be scraped off with a cuticle stick or lightly buffed with a buffer block. Just take care not to scrape too vigorously or you might removing some layers of your natural nail.

Benefits of SNS gel polish

Besides making your nails look super neat and pretty, there are many benefits of gel nails. And SNS gel polishes give you even more reasons to try it out for yourself.

  • Easy to apply
  • Easy to remove; less chemicals
  • Contains vitamin E and calcium
  • Stunning colours and shiny finish
  • Doesn't leave any sticky residue
  • Lasts for over 2 weeks; 3x longer than regular nail polish
  • Feels lightweight and is flexible
  • Vegan & Cruelty-free formula

SNS gel nail products

Within the SNS nail system, there is SNS Gelstar gel polish and the Basics 1+1 Gel and Nail Lacquer Duo Sets to choose from. Each has hundreds of colours to choose from with colours that match SNS dip powders and nail lacquer too!

Dip powder vs gel nails: Which is better?

Both gel and dip manicures have their benefits. They are both long-lasting, lengthening the time between trips to the nail salon or your DIY at-home manicure.

A benefit of dip powder over gel is that no light is needed to cure the polish and are more durable than gel nails. But it can go on a bit thick if you're not careful. Gel polish goes on thinner and looks more like regular nail polish.

Whichever one you decide to get, remember that all SNS has vegan and cruelty-free. Not to mention the bonus of having formulations enriched with vitamins and calcium to promote healthy nail growth. With that in mind, it becomes less of a question of "Which is better?" but more so “Is dip powder or gel better for my lifestyle?”

Which one is best for you depends on what you're looking for, your nail's condition, and how much time you have, and whether you’re getting them done at a salon or by yourself at home.

5 Reasons to Choose SNS Dipping Powder for Your Next Mani

5 Reasons to Choose SNS Dipping Powder for Your Next Mani

Besides there being thousands of colours to choose from and insanely good looking results — why else should you consider choosing SNS for your next mani? If you’re considering dip powder nails for your next set, read on.

We’ve outlined a short list of reasons why we think that’s a good idea.

SNS nails protect and repair your natural nails

Firstly, they add strength and protect your natural nails. It’s the perfect solution if you have thin or damaged nails.

The dip powder process involves creating layers with dipping powder and an adhesive (medical grade cyanoacrylate). These layers are bonded with an activator before the top coat goes on.

No UV light is required for SNS dip powders

Secondly, if you’re concerned about or prefer not to be exposed to UV light, then we have good news for you. The dipping powder application doesn’t require the use of UV lights.

Bonus: everything dries fast.

There's no harsh chemical smell from SNS products

You can tell how much chemicals some products have by the strength and smell they emit. The SNS dip powder range is extra low on chemicals. That’s why it’s essentially odourless!

Low fumes means less irritation and a better, clean environment to be in.

You can't get an infection using SNS dipping powder

Yes, it’s true.

Dipping Powders by SNS contain an ingredient called benzoyl peroxide, which make it the safest dip powder manicure you can get. Benzoyl peroxide kills bacteria, which means there are zero chances of getting an infection from the powder itself.

Be sure you’re getting the SNS brand of dipping powder at your salon to minimise any risks. We’ve got benzoyl peroxide listed on the back of the jar!

SNS nails soak off faster than gels and acrylics

Nail damage usually occurs when you’re trying to remove your manicure. Some products out there are so *long-lasting* and that’s usually a good thing. Until you have to fight to get them off.

You won’t have that experience when you use the SNS dip powder system.

If all SNS products were used to create your dip powder nails, they should be easy to remove. Our formulas don’t contain harsh chemicals that make other nail products hard to remove. Instead, it allows acetone to easily penetrate and weaken the layers for effortless removal.

10 Tips to Improve Your SNS Dip Powder Manicure

10 Tips to Improve Your SNS Dip Powder Manicure

Dip powder application is quite simple… and there's SNS nail kits available that allow you to do them in the comfort of your own home! Here are 10 tips to improve your SNS dip powder manicure so your efforts can be that much more rewarding.

1. Your nails need to be an oil-free zone

The first way to improve your SNS nails is in the preparation. Your nails should be an oil-free zone at all times. When it comes to any nail enhancements, oil on the nail surface is your worst enemy.

At the end of your nail preparation, buff your nails to remove any shine. If nails are naturally oily, we recommend using SNS E.A. Bond to dehydrate nails further unless using pre-bonded products. This will promote a stronger bond and your manicure will last longer.

2. Knowing the BASE-ics is important

Within the SNS Dip Powder System are 2 base coats. They each have different functions and will achieve slightly different results. If you've been using the incorrect base coat then you'll notice how much using the right one will improve your SNS nails.

Using SNS Gel Base for a colour application for instance, will result in bulky and thick nails - not a good result. Read this quick product tip guide to ensure you're using the right SNS base coat.

3. Loosen your dip powders before using them

Dip powders separate over time; the powders become tight and compact. This happens naturally just from sitting on the shelf for a while. Using powders without loosening them beforehand makes it harder to dip into and you won't get a nice, even coating of dip powder.

There are several ways to loosen the powders. You can shake them lightly from side to side; roll the jars on their side on the table; or rotate the jars a couple times until the contents of the jar are mixed enough.

4. Apply thinly to coat evenly

It's tempting to paint on a thick layer of base coat in hopes that it will absorb more powder and in turn, create stronger nails. You might even think it will save you from using more base coat. That isn't the reality of it though and might be the reason your nails are cracking!

Always apply thin layers of base coat. The dip powder will adhere much more evenly and you'll have less to buff and file away later. This is a great tip to instantly improve your SNS nails and avoid bulk.

5. Get into the habit of wiping your brushes

Dip powders can stick and build up on your brush bristles. Always wipe your brushes after each use or the powder on them will contaminate your dip liquids. You might not notice anything at first but over time, your dip liquids will go from clear to murky.

Your brushes will also harden, which will make them hard to use and create streaky, uneven coats. Wiping your brushes on a paper towel between uses is advised to preserve them. You can also clean your brushes during and afterwards with SNS Brush Saver. It's also good measure to have a few replacement brush heads on hand in case you've taken your brush to a point of no return.

6. Protect your dip powder layers with SNS Natural Set Sheer

Buffing or filing away too much powder is a common mistake beginners make when it comes to dipping. To prevent this from happening, we always recommend applying a thin layer or two of SNS Natural Set Sheer. This gives colours, glitters, and designs an extra layer of protection from being over-buffed and filed.

7. Use a moderate amount of Sealer Dry

SNS Sealer Dry is the activating agent used to set dip powder. It hardens the powder beneath it by tightly bonding with the base and top coat layers. It's easy to overdo it however, more activator doesn't equate to faster drying or stronger layers.

Excessive amounts of Sealer Dry can cause hairline cracks, which compromises the structural integrity of your manicure, making it prone to chips and breakages. Too much Sealer Dry also affects the drying of SNS Gel Top. Use enough to cover the powder on nails and allow to dry completely before moving on.

8. Avoid water

Like oil; water should go nowhere near dip powder. Instead of washing your hands after the final buff and file, use a lint-free wipe to clean the nail surface. If you must wash, avoid using soap and make sure hands are completely void of moisture before proceeding with SNS Gel Top. Water affects the dry times and can contribute to uneven shine.

9. Clean as you go

To give your dip powder manicure the best chances of turning out neat and pretty, try to clean as you go. After dipping each layer, use a wooden cuticle stick to clean around the cuticle area, around the sides of the nails, and underneath the nail tip. It's easier to remove at this point before it hardens with contact with SNS Sealer Dry. You'll have less to file and buff off in the later stages.

10. Always apply 2 Coats of top coat

2 coats of SNS Gel Top is absolutely necessary if you want to achieve the brilliant shine that SNS nails are known for. The first layer of base coat protects and seals the dip powder underneath. The second layer is what adds the shine. Apply the first coat thinly and the second slightly thicker. Always allow the coats to air dry for at least 2 minutes in between. Read this short

These are just 10 simple yet effective things you can start doing today to improve your SNS dip powder manicures.
